BioScience GmbH, a German manufacturer of medical devices based on hyaluronic acid, has launched HYAcorp, a range of dermal fillers made from crosslinked hyaluronic acid* (HA) for restoring the volume and contouring the face and body. Each of the products vary in cross-linking degree, particle size and concentration of HA Picking the correct combination of these three factors allows you to choose the product that best suits each area.
Treatment
Treatment with HYACorp is not a surgical procedure. It is carried out in outpatients without a general anaesthetic. The result is immediately visible. After treatment the patient can start work again, or enjoy leisure activites. HYACorp presents a natural opportunity without the use of implants, autologus fat injections, autologus tissue engineering or surgical procedures. It binds moisture perfectly and at the same time stimulates the regeneration of collagen. This provides the skin with renewed elasticity and restores the facial harmony.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid has been used in medicine for a long time and over many years has been proven to have an excellent safety property. HA in its natural form, remains in the tissue for only a short amount of time because of enzymatic degradation and free radical metabolism.
To avoid these effects, HA is modified, through crosslinking, to form a water-insoluble polymer hydrogel. This hydrogel is more resistant to degradation but has a similar biocompatibility to non-modified HA.
Advanced thixotropic technology
BioScience GmbH has developed a specific manufacturing process that allows this special type of cross-linked HA gels to be synthesised. This process creates the property of becoming less viscous under pressure (injecting force) and returning immediately to the original viscosity when the pressure (injecting force) is no longer being applied.
This gel's molecules are covalently bonded, meaning it remains in the tissue for longer and is more stable. The special structure of these thixotropic HA molecules also reduces the diffusion rate of the enzyme hyaluronidase into the matrix. As a result of this crosslinking technique, a smooth, homogeneous and long-lasting gel is created.
Injecting levels
The duration of the filling effect can vary, and is dependent on the depth and area of injection. The depth of the injection may differ from subcutaneous to supraperiostal administration depending on the treatment site.
The degree of crosslinking defines the elasticity and duration of the product: Treatment in deeper skin structures require a firmer product, a high crosslinked HA should be used. On the other hand, areas intended to be soft after treatment, for example face and lips, need a lower level of crosslinking. The range comprises four facial fillers and two body fillers; HYAcorp Fine, HYAcorp Face, HYAcorp Face II Voluma, HYAcorp Lips, HYAcorp Body Contouring MLF1 and HYAcorp Body Contouring MLF2.
*Hyaluronic acid used in HYAcorp production is endotoxin and BDDE free. Protein concentrations are not significant and the HA is tested BSE-free and of non-animal origin.
