In conversation with Josie Wood

Independent Nurse Prescriber and Clinical Director, Amethyst Clinic

Based in Bingley, West Yorkshire, Amethyst Clinic is a nurse led medical aesthetics and wellness clinic dedicated to helping patients look and feel their best through evidence based aesthetic treatments and holistic patient care. We offer a range of advanced skin, injectable and wellness treatments, always focusing on natural results and long term skin health.

What’s your favourite aesthetic treatment to perform and why?
Microneedling is probably our favourite treatment to perform. I’ve offered microneedling in clinic for many years because it is such a versatile treatment and can be tailored to so many different patient concerns, from skin ageing and pigmentation to acne scarring and overall skin rejuvenation.

What I love most is that it works by stimulating the skin’s natural regenerative processes and encouraging collagen production, so the improvements continue long after the treatment itself. Seeing a patient’s confidence grow as their skin becomes healthier, stronger and more radiant over time is incredibly rewarding.

Since upgrading to the XCellarisPro Twist, my love for microneedling has only grown. The treatment experience is fantastic for both practitioner and patient, and the ability to combine it with a complete professional and homecare range allows me to create truly bespoke treatment plans and achieve even better outcomes.

What is your signature approach when it comes to treating your patients?
My approach is always patient centred and focused on achieving natural looking results. I spend a lot of time educating patients about their skin, lifestyle factors and treatment options so they can make informed decisions. I believe in treating the whole person, not just the concern they walk through the door with.

Building trust and long term relationships is really important to me and many of my patients have been with me for many years. We treat the face, but we also support the mind, and I think that holistic approach is what makes our clinic different.

Why do you use the XCellarisPro Twist?
I recently upgraded to it after using the eDermastamp for many years. I’ll be honest, I was quite reluctant to upgrade at first because the eDermastamp had served me so well and delivered fantastic results for my patients. However, after seeing the technology and experiencing the XCellarisPro Twist for myself, I am so pleased I made the change.

The treatment is smoother, more comfortable for patients and gives me greater flexibility and precision. The quality of the device and the overall patient experience really stood out to me.

What really convinced me was seeing how the device fits into a complete treatment journey. It’s not just a microneedling device. It’s supported by a full professional and homecare range, including specialist skincare products and at home dermarollers, allowing me to create truly bespoke collagen stimulation programmes for my patients and support their results both in clinic and at home.

Since introducing the XCellarisPro Twist, we’ve even launched a dedicated Collagen Regeneration Programme at Amethyst Clinic, combining in clinic treatments with tailored homecare to help patients achieve the very best results.

Who does the device suit?
One of the reasons I love microneedling is its versatility. The XCellarisPro Twist can be used to treat a wide range of concerns including skin ageing, fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, pigmentation and overall skin rejuvenation.

It is suitable for most skin types and can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Whether someone is looking to prevent signs of ageing or address more specific skin concerns, it can be incorporated into a personalised treatment plan.

Microneedling fits perfectly alongside many...treatments ...and is often the missing piece of the puzzle for patients...

Which are your must have products from the XCellarisPro range and why?
One of the biggest benefits of upgrading is having access to a complete professional and homecare range that works alongside the treatment itself.

I particularly love the XCellaris Cell Booster and CC Cream, which we use regularly within clinic, along with the treatment masks. Having a full range of products designed to complement the treatment allows us to create a much more bespoke experience for every patient and support the skin before, during and after microneedling.

Previously, we didn’t have that same level of integration between treatment and homecare, so it’s been fantastic to be able to offer patients a complete skin health journey rather than just a standalone treatment.

Do you use the XCellarisPro Twist personally?
Absolutely. I would never recommend a treatment to my patients that I wouldn’t have myself. I’ve experienced the XCellarisPro Twist personally and have been really impressed with both the treatment experience and the results.

As someone who is passionate about skin health and healthy ageing, it has become an important part of my own treatment plan.

How does microneedling complement the aesthetics treatments you offer?

Microneedling fits perfectly alongside many of the treatments we provide at Amethyst Clinic and is often the missing piece of the puzzle for patients looking to improve their skin quality.

Many patients come to us wanting to address concerns such as skin ageing, menopause related
skin changes, acne scarring, pigmentation or loss of firmness. While injectable treatments can restore volume and soften lines, microneedling focuses on improving the quality, strength and overall health of the skin itself.

I often combine microneedling with treatments such as polynucleotides, skin boosters and LED therapy to create a comprehensive and regenerative approach to skin rejuvenation. By
stimulating collagen production and supporting the skin’s natural repair processes, we can improve texture, tone and resilience whilst achieving more natural and longer lasting results.

For many patients, particularly those experiencing menopause related changes to the skin, microneedling is the treatment that brings everything together. It helps improve the skin’s foundation, allowing us to achieve even better outcomes from the other treatments we offer.

What do you enjoy most about working in aesthetics?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. I love building relationships with patients and helping them feel more confident in themselves. Some patients come to us because of a skin concern, while others simply want to invest in self care. Being able to support them on that journey and see the positive impact it has on their confidence is incredibly rewarding.

The industry is also constantly evolving, which means there is always something new to learn. I am passionate about continuing education and bringing the latest evidence based treatments
to my patients.

What do you think are the industry trends to watch?
I think regenerative aesthetics is going to continue to grow significantly over the next few years. Patients are becoming increasingly interested in treatments that stimulate the body’s own natural collagen production rather than simply replacing lost volume.

Treatments such as polynucleotides, biostimulators, exosomes and advanced microneedling technologies are becoming increasingly popular because they focus on long term skin health and
natural results.

I also think we’ll continue to see a greater emphasis on combination treatments and personalised treatment plans rather than one size fits all approaches.

What are the future plans for you and your practice?

We are currently in an exciting period of growth at Amethyst Clinic. Following my recent visit to Hosted Aesthetics Malta, where I had the opportunity to meet with industry leaders including the team at Wigmore Medical, I’ve returned with lots of inspiration and ideas for the future. Events like these are invaluable for discovering new technologies, sharing best practice and ultimately enhancing the experience and results we can offer our patients.

My focus is continuing to invest in advanced technologies and evidence based treatments that genuinely improve patient outcomes. We’ve recently introduced the XCellarisPro Twist, launched new regenerative treatment programmes and continue to expand our skin and wellness services.

My goal is for Amethyst Clinic to continue being recognised as a trusted destination for patients seeking natural results, exceptional care and a truly personalised experience. We treat the face, but we also support the mind, and that philosophy will remain at the heart of everything we do.
