Clinisept+ Skin has expanded in surgical applications, with many surgeons now selecting it over chlorhexidine and iodine-based products

Clinisept+ Skin, the undisputed skin prep and aftercare of choice of the aesthetics industry, is expanding its reach into the surgical arena with many of the UK’s leading surgeons now selecting Clinisept+ over traditional chlorhexidine and iodine-based chemistries.

A catalyst for this growth has been the recent withdrawal of Unisept, a chlorhexidine solution manufactured by Molnlycke, which has been used as a theatre skin prep for many years.
Clinisept+ Skin has been hailed as an ideal replacement for Unisept and many surgeons are now making the switch. In fact, as opposed to just replacing Unisept, Clinisept+ offers significant advantages that make it a far more appealing proposition.

Post-procedure

While Clinisept+ provides superior antimicrobial protection, it is its complete skin compatibility, however, that is leading to a change of practice. Once a procedure has been completed, Clinisept+ can be used to wipe over the skin to clean the area without causing any sensitivity or irritation owing to it being noncytotoxic— meaning there is no need to use a separate saline solution to wipe down after the procedure.

Clinisept+ also offers one further significant benefit to patients once they leave surgery. When used as an aftercare to keep the area clean, Clinisept+ forms the perfect environment for skin to heal rapidly—leading to significantly reduced patient down time and protection against complications. As well as using Clinisept+ in theatre, many surgeons therefore also supply their patients with a 100ml bottle of Clinisept+ Skin to use at home following a procedure.

Results
Nora Nugent, Vice President of BAAPS, uses Clinisept+ in this manner for labiaplasty procedures and reports excellent results. She comments, “It is now routine for my patients to use Clinisept+ to maintain good wound hygiene without causing any irritation and patients give very positive feedback”.
