In conversation with Irena Daniels

We get the lowdown on all things Dermaroller and microneedling with Skin ID’s Founder

What is your background? How long have you worked in aesthetics?
I have more than 20 years clinical experience working as a GP specialising in dermatology. I’m also the founder of luxury medical clinic Skin ID in Sandbanks, Poole—I’ve been working in aesthetics for 14 years.

What do you most enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy building relationships with patients and driving results that are individual—high-end but age appropriate and always starting with skin quality as a focus. I love the innovative aspects of cosmetic dermatology and that we can offer many treatment options and regimes for the same problem. Each patient’s journey is their unique plan—their ‘skin ID’.

How long have you been using Dermaroller XCellarisPro TWIST?
I’ve been using TWIST for around 12 months now, it’s fast become our go-to treatment for anyone that values skin health, and who wants to progress from facials to the world of technology and more invasive treatments. We just love microneedling at Skin ID!

"One of my favourite things is the speed of the treatment— it takes 20 minutes and is very well tolerated: the majority of patients don’t need numbing cream
What do you like about the system?
One of my favourite things is the speed of the treatment—it takes 20 minutes and is very well tolerated; the majority of patients don’t need numbing cream. I also love that we can treat unusual areas like the abdomen, stretch marks and scarring due to the device’s depth. I used the EDS treatment before and it was a very reliable device, so I trust the Dermaroller as being a long standing, safe brand and company. Also, the unique needle tip placement allows cleaning in-between treatments, as well as cross contamination safety.

Do you also use the XCellarisPro skincare range?
I use all the products, but my favourite is CIT Hyal Gel and Intense Hydration Mask which is very cooling and calming—patientsm love it post-treatment.

What are the short and long-term benefits of microneedling?
Initially, patients will notice a more radiant complexion that glows, then after about eight to twelve weeks and following three treatments, we have observed improvements to pigmentation, scarring, wrinkle depth and skin plumpness. We’ve also seen great results for treatment of postnatal and post-menopausal hair thinning.

With more than two decades’ experience working as a GP specialising in dermatology, Founder and Director of Skin ID Clinic, Dr Irena Daniels, recognised that there was a gap in care for people who were prescribed toxic creams and antibiotics for a skin condition, with no real consideration for the skin’s long-term health. She believes that if you only fight diseased skin, you will never boost healthy skin. Dr Daniels wants her patients to take away any negative thoughts about their skin, and instead use techniques and technologies to enhance the positive parts.
