At Home Hair Restoration

Danny Large discusses how hair loss can be addressed without the need for in-clinic procedures

We are in a curious time where our future, both personally and business-wise, is being challenged to look at alternative ways of moving forward positively. This period gives us an opportunity to look into developing a new way of managing clinics, clients and exploring other revenue options. I am fortunate enough to be involved in hair restoration in my role as CEO of British Association of Hair Surgeons (BAHRS) and it has opened my eyes to opportunities for different ways to treat patients, which in turn will support our business revenue.

Hair restoration at home

Losing your hair can have a major impact on many people, both male and female.  It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as family history, stress, hormonal and medical conditions to name just a few. The good news is that companies who offer hair restoration solutions as an alternative to hair transplants and procedures that are usually carried out in-clinics are looking at the hair market and producing products that can help people with hair loss at home. Many people will still need hair surgery, but if a patient fits the criteria, they may have the option for less invasive clinic treatment and a home treatment protocol. This can begin at home during lockdown, and follow up with in-clinic treatment when possible.

An example of this type of new product utilising growth factors is SkinGenuity Hair Restoration Home Kit which Wigmore Medical distributes in the UK. SkinGenuity Hair Restoration Home Kit uses Inter-Cell Messenger Technology to specifically target the regrowth of hair follicles.

SkinGenuity Hair Restoration Home Kit

It has long been thought that people with hair loss had a depletion of hair follicles and follicle stem cells, which are necessary to grow hair. It is now known that bald people have the same number of follicle stem cells as those with hair. An inability of stem cells in the scalp to develop into the type of cells that make hair follicles may be an underlying cause of pattern baldness. Hair follicle stem cells require specific bio-signals from within the skin to grow hair. In an effort to provide the necessary biological signals growth factors and cytokines that are used to increase hair re-growth need to be added to the scalp. SkinGenuity Hair Restoration Home Kit contains four 5ml bottles which have 11 growth factors, and 0.2mm Micro-Fusion Applicators to needle the scalp, directly delivering growth factors to the scalp. In addition, a novel brush with hollow needles delivers over 30 botanicals to support the hair condition.

Product range

While this product is one that is offered at Wigmore there are alternatives which range from capital equipment to shampoos.  Whatever treatment you decide upon if you go into this sector of our industry, the area of hair restoration is growing and will continue to grow at the science and technology improves.
