Lab 31b topical innovations

Advancing non-invasive aesthetic dermatology via MicroMelt needle technology and PowerPeptide-5 by Professor Syed Haq

Currently in the aesthetic dermatology arena, clinicians regularly encounter patients who want transformative treatments that are safe and long-lasting to their skin. The principle of dermal restructuring is a term used in the context of invasive procedures that target the fibroblast and thereby boost the skin’s ability to remodel.

Topical formulations are limited by the presence of the stratum corneum (SR), a physical barrier, which restricts the passive diffusion of hydrophilic macromolecules and peptides exceeding 500 Daltons. As a direct consequence, we as clinicians are limited to what actives we can use to target the epidermis and dermis. With this in mind, LAB 31b (under the scientific direction of the molecular biochemist Dr Elina Tester) has pioneered advanced
cosmeceutical platforms. Combining proprietary peptides engineered with novel transdermal delivery mechanisms, LAB 31b are able to deliver anti-ageing topicals which are highly efficacious.

MicroMelt needle technology

The NEED•L line is MicroMelt Needle Technology, an innovative approach which encapsulates in excess of 10,000 peptide-infused hyaluronic acid (HA) microneedles per bottle. Using MicroMelt Needle technology creates physical channels in the SR on gentle massage. These microscopic, crystalline structures physically penetrate the SR barrier without traumatic bleeding or downtime. Thermal and moisturemediated dissolution is the next step, where the skin’s natural moisture and thermal energy, sees the hyaluronic acid microstructures rapidly dissolve. The impact of this is enhanced transdermal flux, leading to significantly higher penetration compared to comparable creams. The impact of this is simultaneously, the degradation of high-MWt hyaluronic acid restoring hydration, while the peptide complexes stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis.

Clinical evaluation

As clinicians, safety and tolerability is very important. Clinical trials evaluating dissolving microneedle arrays and peptide-infused topical regimens confirm a strong safety profile. A reduction in trans-epidermal water loss underscores the impact on maintaining barrier integrity. The product range exhibits no adverse erythema or irritation , underscoring allowing a strong safety profile with twice-daily use. Importantly, the LAB 31b topical range can be used on all Fitzpatrick skin types.

The use of dissolving microneedle technology with specific peptides show an efficacious and safe medium to obtain more effective anti-ageing results from twice daily topical use around the eyes and face. Allowing macromolecular delivery without the use of a secondary procedure to help penetrate the skin is important in such a fiscally difficult time for our patients downtime.

PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

NEED•L MicroPeptide Needle Power Serum
is composed of proprietary PowerPeptide-5 complex, encapsulated in 10,000+ hyaluronic acid microneedles, combined with Bakuchiol (a botanical retinol alternative). The clinical impact of this is accelerate cellular turnover, refine skin texture, and promote ‘collagen banking’ for long-term structural integrity. Clinical and consumer testing showed that 100% of consumers saw improvements in skin texture, and 97% reported a visible softening of fine lines within a fortnight.

NEED•L PowerPeptide-5 Eye Cream
has been Engineered for the delicate periorbital region, incorporating PowerPeptide-5 with Vitamin C, caffeine, troxerutin, chlorella vulgaris, allantoin, and squalane. The unique blend focuses on dark circles, lymphatic congestion and softening dynamic expression lines (crow’s feet).

NEED•L MicroPeptide Needle Power Treatment Cream
uses PowerPeptide-5 admixed with shea butter, boswellia extract, and hyaluronic acid microcrystals. This formulation provides intensive barrier repair and deep moisturisation. Boswellia acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and firming agent, whilst shea butter provides sustained lipid reserve. Consumer testing showed 96% of users experienced increased hydration and overall skin improvement after four weeks of consistent use.

Results from three months of twice daily use

Anti-ageing Impact of the NEED•L Micropeptide Technology
Visia Scan showing the improvement post treatment of a 50 year old man from the chronological age of 50 years to a Trueskin age of 48 years. The patient applied the Micropeptide topicals twice daily for three months (Needle Power Treatment cream and Needle Power Serum).

Anti-inflammatory Impact of the NEED•L Micropeptide Technology
